Tom's Model Guide

Glen's CAP232 -68 Laser 150 upgrade by Tom Laird. March 2005

I had been running a Thunder Tiger 91 since I built the CAP and whilst okay for general flying about, I felt the urge for something with a bit more poke. Since my next model could be slightly larger I decided to go for the Laser 150.

There is always debate about the relative position of the fuel tank centre line with respect to the main jet. I follow the train of thought that says the tank should be in line or no more than 1/4 inch below. Unfortunately when the engine was put on the mount the tank was about 2 inches above the main jet - not good in my view.

Since I couldn't raise the engine any higher (as it would not be on the thrust line) I had to lower the tank. The following pictures show the fabrication of a new fuel tank bay - not pretty but it works and I have had no problems so far.
