Flair Swallow Fuselage Repair by Tom Laird. 29/4/2007

Notes on repairing a Flair Swallow fuselage

Ah well, here we go again :(

I managed to come off the smooth tarmac runway and onto a rough section and the fuze just crumpled.

The Repair
The basic strategy is to join the front onto the rear section, then put doublers on the inside and outside to provide additional support.

Poor wee thing.

.

Most broken bits will go back in place, but remember to reinforce the join form the inside.

This is one of the areas that needs reinforcing on the inside.

It took about 3 hours to get to this stage. This is the decision point i.e. can we make a safe join? The problem is that I cannot got to the inside to put in a doubler so I need to decide if some thin glass cloth and cyno will give enough reinforcement. Time to call in a couple of other expert builders I think - no point in hurrying this bit.
